The mission of DOSA Camps' I Am Special, Promise, and Care is based on the following four Pillars of Service:
To provide a five-day, recreational and residential summer camp experience for children, teenagers, and young adults with disabilities.
The campers who participate in Camp I Am Special, Camp Promise, and Camp Care are able to experience the growth opportunities and joy of a recreational summer camp where they participate in typical summer camp activities. Such opportunities are customarily available only to individuals of normal ability.
To provide respite for families of children, teenagers, and young adults with disabilities.
For the families of our campers, these five days of camp may be the only days of respite they receive the entire year. The environment of Camp I Am Special, Camp Promise, and Camp Care is such that family members can be assured that their child, ward, brother, or sister is well cared for. This sense of comfort allows them to take some time for well-deserved rest and relaxation.
To provide a challenging and rewarding service opportunity for high school and college students.
The students who take on the roles of buddies and group leaders will give a week of their summer in complete selfless service. The life lessons and perspectives they will gain, while being the hands of Christ for others, is unparalleled to anything else they have ever experienced.
To promote the charitable mission of the Church by encouraging the stewardship of persons, both lay and religious, from our Diocese and its Parishes.
Camp I Am Special, Camp Promise, and Camp Care provide many outlets for charitable gifts of time, talent, and treasure. Anyone can become involved in the summer camp program by providing financial support, providing meals, offering services, or giving time as a volunteer.
