Financial Summary:
The annual budget for this ministry is approximately $200,000. During the 2007/2008 Fiscal Year, the Diocese was only able to subsidize $34,890 of this total. In addition, about 65% of our campers are awarded full or partial scholarships in order to remove the financial obstacle that might otherwise prevent a child from attending camp.

Internal Controls:
The Ministry for Persons with Disabilities has internal controls in place to preserve fiscal integrity and to administer the distribution of all funds. The Ministry staffs one full-time Executive Director, who serves as the only full-time employee. The Executive Director is responsible for reporting and managing all income and expenditures, and for implementing program protocols. In addition, every Diocesan Ministry, including the Ministry for Persons with Disabilities, is audited once per year.

Other Funding Sources:
As a result of the above, coupled with the need to expand current programming, there is an established need for the Ministry for Persons with Disabilities to obtain funding from other sources. The ministry has sought, and will continue to seek, to procure this funding through the following means:

  • Grant Proposals
    • In the past year, the Ministry for Persons with Disabilities has been awarded over $150,000 in grants from private foundations and organizations that support persons with disabilities.
  • Fundraising Events
    • Golf Tournament: The fifth annual "I Am Special Charity Golf Tournament" will be held in the Spring of 2009. All proceeds benefit the campers of Camp I Am Special, Camp Promise, and Camp Care.
    • Diocesan Council of Catholic Women Fashion Show: The 27th annual “Camp Fashion Show” will take place in the Spring of 2009. All proceeds benefit the campers of Camp I Am Special, Camp Promise, and Camp Care.
  • Platinum Promises Gala
    • Our second annual Platinum Promises Gala will take place on Saturday, January 24, 2009 at Jacksonville Municipal Stadium (the home of the NFL's Jacksonville Jaguars). More details can be found here.
  • Parish Support
  • Private Donations
    • Over the past 2 decades, the Ministry for Persons with Disabilities has built a broad base of individual donors and supporters.
