What are Buddies?
We use the term "buddies" to describe our caregivers at Camp I Am Special, Camp Promise, and Camp Care. Our completely volunteer buddy staff is made up of high school and college students who selflessly give of their time to serve as a buddy for the entire camp session. Each buddy is responsible for one and only one camper during the week.
Buddies are expected to be selfless, dedicated, compassionate, energetic, and FUN.
How are Buddies trained?
Our buddies undergo an extensive training program that covers the following areas:
- Safety and Security
- Seizure Protocol
- Swimming Protocol
- Adaptive Equipment
- Lifting and Transferring
- Positioning
How to Become a Buddy
If you're a high school or college student, you are eligible to apply to become a buddy at Camp I Am Special, Camp Promise, and Camp Care. You can request a buddy application in one of the following manners:
